Choujin X – Chp. 7

Title: Choujin X
Original Title: 超人X
Author: Sui Ishida
Artist: Sui Ishida

SYNOPSIS
Azuma Higashi is a rather popular boy. Although he may be somewhat small, he has good fighting skills, a strong sense of justice, and his grades are at the top of his class. This is the opposite of Tokio Kurohara, his friend who does not listen in class and is simply a bystander while Azuma fights. Nonetheless, these two childhood friends’ bond is strong, no matter how different they may be.
The two live in Yamato Prefecture, an incredibly ordinary district with some areas destroyed by Choujin. Choujin are humans with dangerous supernatural powers, often the cause of the surrounding destruction. Whilst on their way back home, Tokio and Azuma encounter a Choujin, who threatens to kill them. Having no chance of escape, Tokio and Azuma make a crucial decision: to become Choujin.
With these new powers acquired, Tokio can no longer be the bystander he once was, now entrapped in a world where fighting is unavoidable.

DISCLAIMER! This is the review of the 7th chapter of this manga. By being a review of a single chapter it can contain various SPOILERS. Read at your discretion.

I’m in love with the part right after the little moment of insight of Tokio. I like that kind of psychedelic effect given by all that line! It gives a strange sense of both power and mystery to the scene. It lets you intend that something is happening but it still leaves a mysterious aura around it.

The frame with Tokio on the sign is so cool! But it can also immediately make me laugh with the little jump for feeling “so light” that comes right after!

The style of the fights is quite different from what we are accustomed to see in Sui IShida0s Tokyo Ghoul: here there is a more comical side to the scene with also the funny exchange between Tokio and the girl.

The fight still evolves into something funny when Tokio returns normal but it immediately gets back to some serious mood with the apparition of a new character that also seems to have some serious power.

I have the feeling that the author is enjoying drawing this story, because some of the frames are hilarious but at the same time full of details! I imagine him giggling while adding all the small details to the scene.

A school of Choujin? Things start to get really interesting in this chapter’s finale!
