Hi everyone and welcome to the third week of the sixth Commander Boxing League of our group!
After the end of the previous week (click here to read how it went), each of us has chosen another set to get six additional booster packs from and added the cards we found inside them to our pool of cards.
The Rogue deck with Krydle didn’t go as well as the first time during the previous week but I still decided to support the archetype. I decided to choose Kaldheim for my packs to get some more rogues and changelings.
I did find some cool stuff like Bloodline Pretender, but nothing too exciting.
You can find the updated decklist by clicking here.
We started playing, each of us trying to get two games to win this week and take two points home.
We all have a normal start with not too much ramp. I cast Krydle and I’m able to do only a single attack with it before it gets removed by Slimefoot. Both the other Commander hits the field and Mirri also casts a Trinisphere but Slimefoot removes it. Mirri then casts a Temporal Extortion and, when I decide to not pay, Slimefoot does the same, gifting Mirri with an extra turn. Mirri has an aggressive turn and also is able to get the Trinisphere back from the graveyard.
Slimefoot casts a Jugan while I drop Zareth on the field and I use it to steal a Nemesis Mask from Mirri’s graveyard.
I equip the Mask to my Yuan-Ti Fang-Blade and I use it to attack Slimefoot, hoping to clean his board a bit, but he is able to save his creatures by making all of his creatures crew Aradara Express, but I’m still happy to be able to kill it.
Mirri attacks me but I chump block with Nevermaker, retaliating by putting Mirri back on the top of his deck. I focus on Slimefoot but he in response deals me 28 damages in a turn. I’m able to knock him out in my turn with my rogues but then I’m left alone against Mirri. I’m only at 6 life while he is at 30 and so he is quickly able to overwhelm me.
Another regular start with me this time being able to play Krydle and swing with it more than once this time.
I’m able to cast Westgate Regent and I use it to attack Mirri as he is starting to set up his Commander for some voltron kills. Slimefoot casts Horobi that makes it really easy for us to destroy each other’s creatures and so I quickly fell a bit behind. I cast Sphere of Annihilation to try to reset the board but Slimefoot is able to remove it.
With Horobi still on the fields and Mirri enchanted with a Sadistic Glee, Gianluca only need to target with random ability to destroy creatures and pump up his Commander.
Mirri becomes huge and we don’t have answers for it and so he is quickly able to remove both of us with two swings.
Mirri was really quick to adapt to the situations and turned them to his advantage, getting two really fast wins.
By winning the week, Gianluca got 2 points in the ranking.
This is the ranking after the third week:
Raven: 3 points.
Gianluca: 2 points
Giovanni: 2 points
