Welcome back to Commander Exercise, the series where I build EDH decks for fun and to improve my deck building skills.
This time I got asked by mtg_mana_drama on Instagram to build my own deck around the Commander of the Lorehold Strixhaven Precon Osgir, the Reconstructor.
For my deck I decided to go for a Combo one based on artifacts and that would benefit from synergies with Orgir and from the more resilience he is able to give!

The deck wins by assembling a combo that will grant us infinite mana; mana that we are going to sink into one of our outlets that will make it possible for us to win the game via infinite damage to our opponents.
The deck uses its Commander’s abilities to net value from our cards and to make our combo more resilient to removals.
The deck was built with a 250$ budget in mind and you can find the full decklist by clicking here.
Ramp
The ramp of the deck is composed of mana rocks or ways to discount the price of our artifacts, plus cards like Wayfarer’s Bauble that we can target in our graveyard to make multiple copies that we can reuse to ramp even more.
Basalt Monolith is an important card for our deck as it is our combo piece that will let us net the infinite mana.
Artifacts
These are some general artifacts that we are going to use to lead the game in our favor and that could turn into our wincons. Walking Ballista and Goblin Cannon are out two mana outlets that will let us deal all the damage we need to knock out all our opponents; Just remember that Goblin Cannon’s activation needs to be stacked in response of one another if you want to deal infinite damage without having to sacrifice it before being able to.
If we don’t already have one of our damage outlets on the field, we can sink mana in Staff of Domination to draw cards until we are able to find one.
More Osgir’s Activaction
To net even more value with our Commander we can use these cards to activate his ability more then once each turn.
Rings of Brighthearth is one of the combo pieces that will let us create infinite mana with Basalt Monolith.
Tutors, Card Advantage & Card Draw
The name of this section directly implies what the cards here are going to do, with some focus on getting artifacts back from the graveyard. We also don’t mind throwing some artifacts into the bin with cards like Faithless Looting as we will be able to get them back with the other cards of this section and leave it there to be used by our Commander.
Interactions
As always, it is mandatory to have ways to interact with our opponents, to stop their plans and protect ourselves. Some of these cards are also artifacts that we can reuse thanks to our Commander.
Protection
Speaking about protection, we have some cards completely dedicated to protect our permanents from being targeted by our opponents’ spells or, like in Boros Charm case, make them Indestructible. Apart from the Charm, every other card here is an artifact that can reanimate with our Commander, also making multiple copies of it.
Other
Zirda is the other card that will let us get infinite mana with the Basalt Monolith and at the same time it will also help us by discounting the cost of Osgir’s ability.
Ingenious Artillerist and Reckless Fireweaver are two cards that will help us finish our opponents even without the combo but simply by damaging our opponents each time we are going to have an artifact enter the battlefield under our control.
With Osgir exiling the card from our graveyard when creating the copies, cards like Pull from Eternity and Karn are perfect to get those cards back and give us the possibility to pull that trick again.
Lands
A few self-explanatory utility lands and also we are running artifact lands as we can get two of them back with Osgir’s ability. We are also running a bit more basics than usual as we have many effects that are going to tutor for them.
Axgard Armory is going to be used to tutor for one of the gauntlets to repeat Osgir’s activation or one of the boots to protect our pieces.
Upgrades
Krark-Clan Ironworks will help by creating another infinite mana combo with the cards we have already in the deck as it is able to go infinite with cards similar to Myr Retriever.
Another way to make our Commander even more powerful is by increasing the number of tokens he is going to make; cards like Mondrak or Anointed Procession are amazing for this, but they were left out for budget purposes.
I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know how you would have built it differently, what you will have added and what not…
Also don’t forget to tell me what I should try to build next.
Huh, I just sleeved up the precon deck for this guy this afternoon 😀

It is quite a popular precon! Did you have fun?

Oh, I didn’t get to play it, just literally sleeved it up. I was playing some casual 60card that day 🙂
