SYNOPSIS
Fire Wave must protect her mind if she doesn’t want to lose in a battle of illusions.
Now that it has been known that there are aliens among the Earth, Fire Wave is still trying to find a way to defeat Opsidia. However, the heroine gets more than she bargained for when she embarks on this mission.
She soon meets another new enemy called ‘Shadow’ and wonders where he came from, and if he works for Opsidia. Worse, this enemy might be even more powerful than Opsidia.
After a hint dropped by her nemesis, Fire Wave continues her research of the scientist, Bohr. What did Bohr really find in his files that would cause him to burn them? As her search continues, she starts to realize just how dangerous Opsidia and Shadow really are and must be careful.
Especially if she doesn’t want to lose her mind…
(from Goodreads)
With the second volume of this series we are back reading about the adventure of the vigilante Fire Wave.
The book starts off with a recap of the first book that is done in quite a smart way, with it blending completely with the narration and not feeling at all like a “in the previous episodes” kind of section.
In this book we are almost back to square one, with the Obsidian Force wreaking havoc in the city and Fire Wave looking for them. The previous book only seemed to be there to introduce the character of Fire Wave and give us the small but important info that she is Opsidia’s sister,
This time however it seems that the enemy won’t be Opsidia’s alone, but we will have our heroine facing more and more someone that we get to know a bit about in the previous book but that in this one takes a much central role: Shadow.
Shadow’s fighting style is also much different from Opsidia’s as it will make everything more oneiric, instead of the brute powers we saw from her.
Many parts could turn out repetitive for the readers of the first book as we will have our protagonist going to the exact same places, doing the same things but surely the general narration is improved. The whole book seemed more homogeneous with the same amount of focus put through the whole of it and not giving the impression that some of the parts were rushed. Also plot holes are completely absent and the ones that might appear like it feel more like something that will be explained in the future books. A clean improvement that also showed us how much an editor is important for the well being of a story as, as she revealed to me, she got to change it between the two books.
The finale is totally unexpected! Might this be the end of the saga? It would totally be a bitter ending and with many things left open but I don’t know how our protagonist would come back from that situation. Surely if a third book is announced, I will be full of hype because it will totally lead to an incredibly interesting development.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
